Collagen-Stimulating Injection (Poly-D,L-Lactic Acid / PDLLA)

This is a biostimulator treatment. It is an injectable that improves skin quality by prompting the skin to make its own collagen, without adding volume.

How it works

The product combines poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA) microspheres with non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid gives hydration and a temporary freshness in the first days. The lasting effect comes from the PDLLA particles. The skin’s immune cells start a controlled repair response around them. This response directs fibroblast cells to produce new collagen and elastin, and slows the breakdown of existing collagen.

PDLLA belongs to the polylactic acid family, used for many years in absorbable sutures. Over several months the particles break down into lactic acid and leave the body. The new collagen stays.

The first change is noticed at 4 to 8 weeks. The result matures over 3 to 6 months. Knowledge of the mechanism comes from laboratory and animal studies. Clinical studies in people are still small and short.

The amount used, the number of sessions and how often treatment is repeated depend on the condition of the skin and on the other treatments planned with it.

The process

It is administered into the skin in the form of microdroplets using fine needles or a cannula. The initial treatment is generally planned as a series of three sessions performed at 6-week intervals. Thereafter, maintenance is typically continued with one session per year. However, the amount administered, the number of sessions, and the frequency of repeat treatments are closely related to the degree of skin damage and the other treatments planned in combination. Therefore, the treatment protocol may vary from person to person.
