Pigmentation

What is?

The pigment called melanin gives our skin its colour. When melanin is over-produced, skin tone becomes uneven. Pigmentation might be in the form of lentigo (local small rounded spots), melasma or post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Causes

Lentigos are small, rounded pigmented spots on sun exposed areas such as face, chest, hands and forearms. Melasma is triggered by genetics, hormonal factors, some medications and sun exposure. Post-inflammatory pigmentation appears as a reaction to irritation following waxing, chemical peels, skin care products or energy based devices.
