Botulinum Toxin Treatment

Botulinum toxin is a drug that has been used in the medical world for over 40 years. It is used to prevent and treat expression lines, giving the face a relaxed appearance, and is the most widely used injection method for cosmetic purposes worldwide. It temporarily blocks chemical signals reaching nerve endings, relaxing the muscles.

• Botulinum toxin is a treatment that, when administered regularly at specific intervals, treats and delays the signs of aging. The toxin used in this treatment, botulinum toxin, is actually a medication. Its popularity in the field of aesthetics rose when it was used to treat strabismus, as patients reported that it reduced the lines around their eyes. 
• As we age, the strength of our facial muscles increases, pulling our face downwards and making us look tense, angry, and tired. Botulinum toxin stops the excessive activity of these facial muscles. It prevents the skin attached to the facial muscles in the middle of the eyebrows, around the eyes, and on the forehead from being pulled and wrinkled, giving the face a more lifted and rested appearance. 
• Botulinum toxin works by temporarily blocking the activity at the point where nerve endings connect to muscle fibers. Over time, wrinkles return as the body forms new nerve-muscle connections, typically within about four months. Therefore, it needs to be repeated at regular intervals, though the frequency varies from person to person. 
• You will not see the effects of botulinum toxin immediately after treatment. Within three days, you will notice that the effect is gradually starting and that you can no longer move your muscles as strongly as before. The desired effect will be fully apparent after about two weeks. 
• In rare cases, touch-ups may be necessary to reinforce the effect or correct minor asymmetries, but this is not necessary for every patient. On the contrary, it may even be a situation to be avoided if it could lead to a loss of the desired natural appearance. It is known that frequent touch-ups and botulinum toxin treatments performed at intervals of less than 90 days increase the risk of developing resistance to the toxin and reducing its effectiveness.
